The Government of Unity State’s referendum task force set aside two days for celebrations following the announcement of the final results of the recently-concluded Southern Sudan Referendum.

The celebration that was scheduled to end on February 9 was attended by state leaders and thousands of state residents at the Bentiu stadium.

There was entertainment by several groups including traditional dance groups and the organised forces who marched around the stadium, singing liberation songs.

Several teams from across the state also took part in sporting activities that included football, basketball, volleyball and athletics pay and traditional dance entertainment from different Counties of Unity State.

The State Minister of Animal Resource who is also the SPLM State deputy chairperson Samuel Lony Geng said the successful vote was a milestone in the political history of South Sudan.

“Let’s celebrate, sing and dance for this victory and tell the world that we are going to govern ourselves as Christian and black Africans in Southern Sudan”, he said.

The referendum task force commended the state residents for their efforts in ensuring the success of the plebiscite.
