India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has invited Pakistani leaders Asif Zardari and Yousuf Gilani to watch the semi-final between India and Pakistan, in a bid to promote ties between the two countries. Furthermore, India has issued 5,000 visas to Pakistanis to watch World Cup matches.

At the same time, the match is being seen as an opportunity to rip people off, as airline fares and ticket prices for the semi-final have soared.
The usual one way fare between Mumbai and Chandigarh is between Rs 6,000 and Rs 8,000. However, on the day of the match, the fare available is anywhere between Rs 18,000 and Rs 22,000.
The craze for the semi-final has also left people buying the tickets for the semi-final in black.
There was a shortage of tickets in the first place due to the selection of the venue which has less capacity than other stadiums, and also the fact that a huge number of tickets will be given to ICC officials, sponsors, and club members.

“The tickets for Rs 250 are available anywhere between Rs 2,000-Rs 2200 as of today, Rs 500 tickets are available for Rs 3500 plus, while Rs 1,000 ticket can only be bought for Rs 8,000,” Sahil Kapoor, a local student, who was trying to purchase the ticket from near the stadium, claimed.

The hype of the semi-final between India and Pakistan has gotten every one excited, including politicians, businessmen, actors, and sports stars of the two countries.

Let’s remember that it is just a game. May the better team win.
