Malda: Today evening, Guwahati-Bengaluru Express collided with a passenger train at Jamirghata in Malda district of West Bengal in which one person killed & fifty were injured. It was declared by the Malda GRP police after the collation of the trains. The Railway spokesperson Anil Saxena said that, the dead body of an elderly woman was found near the engine of the Guwahati-Bengaluru Express’ engine.

The accident occurred at 7.05 PM between Gour Malda & Jamirghata stations. The railways sources further announced that, the Guwahati-Bengaluru Express was heading towards Karnataka & got collided with Azimganj-Malda Town Passenger & further it forced the boogies of the train to get derailed. Three general boogies & engine of the passenger train got derailed, whereas, Guwahati-Bengaluru Express lost six coaches with the engine. Three sleeper class, two parcel & one luggage coaches were among the derailed coaches. 

When the passenger train’s driver saw the derailed coaches suddenly he applied emergency break, coming from the opposite direction. But still he couldn’t avoid the accident & the coaches of the passenger train got derailed. The train routes have been severely affected, with this the eastern railway decided to cancel seven trains. Helpline numbers are Howrah (033-26411416), Malda Town (03512-283444) & Rampurhat (03461-255131) railway station for the public. At this time, the senior eastern railways officials are supervising rescue operation at the scene.
