The chief minister, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said yesterday, in Thiruvananthapuram formerly known as Trivandrum, that the government would seek a support of Rs 1,000cr from the centre to mend roads which have been very badly damaged due to the current heavy rains, as there were a lot of problems faced by the local people in certain areas.
A beginning approximation worked by the department of public works showed that such particular amount was required to carry out the repairing works, Chandy told certain news reporters, after a cabinet meeting, which would be, to the eyes of people, a big initiative to take them out of the hell like situation on the roads.
By considering the national calamity fund the centre should let go the amount, Chandy said, adding more, “I will take up the matter with the centre during my visit to Delhi on September 22 and 23.”
The cabinet gave administrative approval to carry out repair works on various roads, which include National Highways, and would also decide for repayment of the amount spent from the National Highways authority, Chandy said.
