The House of Representatives Committee found possible proof to impeach the Associate Justice of Supreme Court Justice Del Castillo for suspected plagiarism.

The house gave votes, 38-10 with no abstentions, making it clear that there was probable reason to impeach Del Castillo for misinterpreting the point of views of the bunch of foreign authors and alleged plagiarism regarding the “comfort women” case. The issue rose in reference to the comfort women case filed by three foreign women who wanted the Supreme Court to push the government to seek compensation and an official apology from Japan on account of misconduct that they had to suffer while working in Japan.

The SC had given a unanimous decision declaring Del Castillo free of any plagiarism charges and cancelled the petition filed.

However, according to the rules and regulations of House of Representatives regarding impeachment proceedings, a minimum majority of one-third is required for approval. One approval is gained; it shall be transferred to Senate for trial.

Evidence to the justice committee was submitted during last week by both parties. However, Del Castillo did not attend the hearing as he was on sick leave in regards to his second heart surgery that was scheduled for 27th February 2012.

The evidence submitted by the lawyer of Del Castillo included the statements of complainants suggesting their intention is reversal of decision other than removal of the justice and the decision of Supreme Court, whereas the evidence submitted by complainants included protest letters submitted to the SC by the three authors.
