Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik declared in a press conference on Thursday that the perpetrators of Kohistan killings have been discovered and will be brought in front of the nation soon.
Speaking to the media he also declared that the incident was not a sectarian act after having met and discussed with several scholars and religious intellects. Instead the act was aimed at disrupting the general law and order situation in the country. He further added to his statement that those who conspired for the incident have been discovered and shall be brought to everyone’s knowledge soon.
Scouts in Gilgit-Baltistan have been given the powers of policemen for a time span of three months to bring the chaotic situation under control.
He further conveyed the condolences of the entire cabinet and mentioned that his visit was personally requested by the Prime Minister as he was concerned about the people who suffered. Appreciating the help of religious scholars over resolving law and order situation in the region and discussions of the case he praised the way they handled the entire situation and urged others to show tolerance.
Commenting on the compensation for the lives of the dead and their families he said that their demands shall be met at any cost. He also announced compensation money for the deceased’s family members to be Rs. 2 million for each household.
The announcement of the tracing of the criminals of Kohistan killings and the compensation money offered have helped control the chaotic situation in the region to a certain extend. However, efforts are still being made to restore peace in full.
