PM contempt case verdict to be announced on Thursday

The lawyer of the Prime Minister, Aitzaz Ahsen, made an announcement on Tuesday that he is expecting that the Supreme Court will deliver the final verdict of the contempt of court case against the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gillani on Thursday.

He also expressed that if the Supreme Court holds the PM guilty he can lose his job and be jailed for a minimum of six months to refuse to write to Swiss authorities concerning graft cases of the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari. The SC has summoned the accused, PM Gillani to the court on Thursday demanding that his presence is of utmost importance. Ahsen inferred the order of the SC to call the PM thinking that SC will announce the final decision regarding the case which is why they have called him in court. He said, “I am hopeful that the prime minister will be acquitted.”

Aitzaz Ahsen was reported giving statement earlier on Tuesday saying, “The case will now take no more time, and court is expected to decide a date for the decision, but according to the law PM Gilani should be present on the day.”

The decision of the court on Thursday could change the entire structure of politics of Pakistan as if PM is declared guilty, he will have to step down and a new PM will have to appointed.
