Opposition parties in both the Houses of Parliaments in India put pressure for reopening of the Bofors case on Thursday.

The sessions of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha had to be adjourned quite a few times on Thursday to ensure peace and harmony as the opposition parties attacked the ruling party over the inability to resolve the Bofors scam. Where the opposition parties kept asking for a total fresh inquiry into the case, the Congress maintained one stance that the inquiry was complete and that Bofors scam was history now.

The leader of BJP Jaswant Singh said although “correct weapon was acquired, it was acquired in a wrong manner. You [Congress] have paid, we have paid. The nation continues to pay. Till you don’t remove this thorn, the poison will continue to spread. Whatever is happening in the defence sector today is because of this episode. It is a saga of continuing corruption. In matters of corruption, there is no closure.” He also termed the government as the “saga of continuing corruption”.

Speaking further on the matter, he said that he was relieved to see that the name of the Congress leader Amitab Bachan, who has retired from politics, was cleared out in the case, but “We must find out why was Amitabh Bachchan’s name involved in the Bofors scam in the first place.”
