The Vice Mayor of Butuan City Lawrence Lemuel Fortun announced on Thursday that a formal probe will be launched by the city government over the fire in the clothing store which took lives of 17 females.

He informed that he has already instructed the concerned officers of the government to form a team and initiate the investigation at the earliest regarding the fire in Novo Jeans and Shirts store. He also announced that the local government will be financially assisting the families of those females who lost their lives in the fire and also to the three survivors who are admitted in the hospital facing burns and injuries.

Another government official, Ryan Anthony Culima, Councilor of Butuan, expressed that the administration of the store should also be made part of the investigation and it should be inquired if the store policy allowed their workers to stay the night in the store. Adding to the concerns he said, if by chance, the management of the store is found that they did not have the right to allow workers to sleep in the store and/or had violated labor laws in any way possible, they should face legal charges.

The team of Scene of Crime Operatives has managed to recover 18 completely burned and unrecognizable dead bodies from the building. Authorized personnel from City Engineering Office are already working on the site and trying to remove the debris from the burnt store after the Bureau of Fire Protection declared the store clear for removal of remains.
