People’s Action Party (PAP) announces Desmond Choo to be their candidate for the seat of Hougang on Friday.
Speaking at the occasion of his announcement Choo expressed that he does not intend to use ousting of the minister of Worker’s Party Yaw Shin Leong but will contest for the seat on his own believes. The 34 year old candidate for Hougang who is currently serving as the deputy director of the Industrial Relations Unit of NTUC, Choo said, “It was an unfortunate incident. For all of us, the important thing is focus on the future, [and] focus on the more important needs, which really is to select the best person to take care of the ward. I am my own man. It [Yaw] is a closed chapter for me, and I will not be pursuing it. What's important is for Hougang residents to choose an MP that can best serve them.”
Briefing the media about his further course of action, he said that he will pursue the election campaign and techniques with the assistance of already established politicians of his party such as the deputy prime minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam in order to wipe out the opposition clean. Adding to his statement he said, “But it also important to note that this is a local election. Ultimately, it is going to be about me delivering the results on the ground. It is about the MP being able to take care of the residents in the long term."
