Aviation crisis takes a serious turn as the strike by pilots reaches day four ending up in cancellation of 12 Air India international flights and 12 Kingfisher flights on Friday.

Aviation Minister Ajit Singh is rather worried about the turn of events Air India is taking as he was reported saying a day earlier that he hopes Air India “does not enter the ICU” which it did on Friday morning as about a dozen international flights were cancelled burdening the civil aviation further. Air India representative announced on media on Friday, “All our long haul flights to US, Europe, Riyadh and Jeddah have been cancelled.”

The aviation is facing crisis at the moment due to hundreds of Air India pilots going on strike after the Monday-Tuesday night duty and calling in sick saying that they have not been paid by the authorities since January and they will need the management to clear all their dues until May 9 for them to join back work. The non-availability of pilots has led to dozens of international and national flights being cancelled pressurizing the civil aviation. Other carriers have closed bookings of domestic flights until May 15.

Following the footsteps of Air India pilots, Kingfisher flying staff has also refused to join work and called in sick demanding that their salaries should also be paid. The strike by Kingfisher pilots has led to another 12 international flights being cancelled, further worsening the situation by making an aggregate of 24 international flights being cancelled within a single day. The minister of aviation Ajit Singh met with the PM on Friday morning to discuss the situation. However, no formal statement about the meeting between the two has been released yet.
