President Asif Ali Zardari marks the success of his government by reiterating the historic importance of completing a full term of one democratic regime and transferring power to another elected government without any third-party interference.
The President was addressing a gathering at Koobay Chak-Bajwat near Sialkot on Sunday, where he recalled that previous governments were forced to renounce charge and undemocratic elements reigned over the country; however, the current government was successful in changing the history of Pakistan.
“We have succeeded in planting the sapling of democracy which has strengthened its roots during the last five years,” President Zardari exclaimed.
Treasuring the sacrifices of Sialkotis for the defence of Pakistan, Zardari said the city is not only known for its sports industry, but also for playing a vital role in defending the country. He lauded PPP-government for assuring the implementation of successful policies despite all the negative propaganda of the political opponents.
Making reference to the ‘Safe Mother Home’ and the ‘Old Age Home’ projects, Zardari said these projects demonstrate that the PPP government has played a significant role in bringing socio-economic development in Pakistan.
“Through [these] projects, the government steps closer to bring about a qualitative change in the life of poor and down-trodden segments of the society,” he added.
According to the Minister for National Services and Regulations Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and Chairman Evacuee Trust Board Syed Asif Hashmi, the Old Age Home has the initial capacity to house 50 homeless and old women from 124 union councils in district Sialkot. The project was completed at the cost of Rs20 million on a public-private partnership basis.
