Accusing the Punjab government of housing and nourishing banned groups, Interior Minister Rehman Malik claimed his ministry had provided a list of 734 Lashkar-e-Jhangvi activists to the Punjab government.

“The PML-N should atone for its contacts with the terrorist outfit by and capture these terrorists… The Punjab being the headquarters of the LeJ is a fact no one can deny. The federal government had never inter-dined with the LeJ men. We have, rather, opposed all terrorists and banned organizations,” he said.

Malik acknowledged the federal government’s acceptance to hold negotiations with Taliban, claiming that it would not be the case if Taliban continue attacking and killing innocent people. He said the government was determined to eliminate terrorism.

“We have broken the backbone of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and now they are no more in a position to carry out terrorist activities in Quetta and Karachi,” he affirmed.

According to special assistant to CM Punjab Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Malik has starkly failed to fulfill the responsibilities of an interior minister and instead devoted all his energy and resources in political points scoring. Highlighting the crushing law and order situation in Quetta and Karachi, he stressed that Malik is all about words and no action.

Qadri insisted that it is the responsibility of an interior minister to take action against terrorists even if they belonged to the Lashkar-i-Jhanvi.

“Who have stopped Rehman Malik to arrest the elements involved in terrorism from any corner of the country?” said Qadri.

On the other hand, Punjab government’s spokesman Pervaiz Rashid stated that the alleged chief of defunct Laskhkar-i-Jhangvi, Malik Ishaq, is in police custody. He said if the captive is believed to have played a part in terrorist activities in Karachi and Quetta, Malik should come forward and demand his custody.
