Sulu militant group leader, Commander Haji Musa’s body has been identified among 18 bodies brought to the Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem. Apparently, the bodies brought from Kampung Tanjung Batu in Felda Sahabat have decomposed; however, a post-mortem would be carried out by a Pathologist from the Penang Hospital to identify the remains.

“One of the 18 bodies brought to the Lahad Datu Hospital resembled Musa,” said ASP Hussien Omar Khan, the head of Forensics for Ops Daulat.

According to Lahad Datu police Chief Supt Shamsudin Mat, prayers for all those who died during the confrontation would be performed. He said it does not matter whether the deceased were Malaysians or Filipinos.

“Since they too are Muslims, we have a responsibility to perform the prayers before their burial,” he said.

Earlier, around 400 Filipinos entered Malaysian territory and refused to retreat despite multiple warnings from Malaysian security forces. The Filipinos were alleged followers of Sultan Jamalul Kiram who reclaimed the area as their ancestral territory.

“Why should we leave our own home? In fact they (the Malaysians) are paying rent (to us). Our followers will stay in (the Sabah town of) Lahad Datu. Nobody will be sent to the Philippines. Sabah is our home,” Sultan Jamalul Kiram said. “There will be no turning back for us”.

According to Sultan Kiram, he was provoked to send his followers to Sabah after the sultanate was excluded from the agreement signed between Manila and Filipino Muslim rebels in October. The agreement signifies a sovereign region in the southern Philippines as the home to the Muslim minority.
