In response to the mounting pressure from Opposition due to increasing number of rape cases, PM Manmohan Singh has urged his rivals to help the Parliament function smoothly instead of creating unwanted hurdles.

The Opposition has been aggressively criticizing the government after a five-year-old girl was recently raped in Delhi. PM Manmohan assured that the government is not hesitant to debate on any issue.

“Important financial business is before the House. There are also important bills like the Food Security Bill, Land Acquisition Bill which require to be passed. It is my sincere wish that the House should be allowed to function,” PM Manmohan pleaded outside Parliament House.

“We are being put in this position by the people of India to deliver certain goods and we hope that every one cooperates in that process so that the Budget is passed, certain other business is also dealt with effectively,” he added.

Meanwhile, an agitated group of people staged protest outside the PM house on Sunday. Activists of Arvind Kejriwal’s party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were detained during the process. Another group of women activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demonstrated protests outside Sonia Gandhi’s residence shouting “Enough is enough!” and “Save the girl!”

“Action and not words required to check incidents like this heinous rape of five-year-old girl,” Congress President Sonia Gandhi said on Saturday.
