The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) president N Srinivasan made necessary decisions as required by his position; however, a change in tone and perception was very evident during his talks with media persons on Sunday.

It has been observed that Srinivasan took a firm stand against the cricketers who are allegedly involved in spot-fixing case. He called the notorious Rajasthan Royals trio of Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan as a few rotten eggs. However, as the investigation dug deep, the name of his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, began to surface the news. The investigation team probed Meiyappan and implied his alleged involvement in the case.

Meiyappan’s involvement convinced Srinivasan to take a U-turn to defend his family. Although he announced to dismiss his son-in-law until he is proven innocent, he did not express grief and rather maintained that he is only a cricket enthusiast. Hours before the T-20 tournament final on Sunday, Srinivasan suspended Gurunath and formed a three-member committee to look into the affair.

“With regard to Gurunath, the legal process has started and he’s facing police investigation. The BCCI has decided to provisionally suspend him from all activities in cricket and particularly from all involvement in the Chennai Super Kings franchise. The management of Rajasthan Royals will also be subject to the same inquiry procedure,” Srinivasan said.

“He (Gurunath) did not have any role. He never visited the CSK office. But he would go [to the matches]. He is very enthusiastic. Let the commission find out,” he added.
