PM Nawaz Sharif declares energy crisis and security situation as the two brutal challenges faced by his government. Nawaz made his first foreign visit to China after assuming office, where the focus of his meetings remained the power sector of Pakistan.

Nawaz told the journalists in Guangzhou that Pakistan is struggling with extremist forces and that his government is determined to control the law and order situation back home. He gave the statement on Sunday after a terrorist attack killed six people in Lahore.

“We have to improve the security situation to ensure peace in the country,” PM Nawaz said.

Terming his trip to China as more fruitful than expected, the premier said the tragic incident at Diamir has discouraged foreign mountaineers from exploring the beautiful northern areas of Pakistan. However, he claimed that his government will provide foolproof security to Chinese citizens in Pakistan. He also lauded the long-lasting friendship of Pakistan and China and said such heartbreaking incidents could not weaken their stronger than the steel friendship.

Nawaz declared that his government is planning to launch coal-fired power projects, by keeping renewable energy sources like wind and sunlight as top priority for eliminating power shortfall in Pakistan. He termed his meetings with Chinese energy companies as extremely successful. However, he agreed that his government needs to take some difficult decisions in order to steer the country out of energy crisis.

The premier referred to Gwadar-Kashgar economic corridor as an important milestone in the history of Pak-China friendship. He claimed that this project will in turn benefit three billion people and revolutionize the socio-economic landscape of the whole region.
