Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited the Pakistani troops deployed at forward locations along the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday. He examined the condition of resources available on site and seemed extremely satisfied with the high morale of Pakistani soldiers at this critical point in time.

Gen Kayani commended the state of morale, operational preparedness and vigil of soldiers deployed at the LoC. After being briefed about the current security situation by local formation commander, Gen Kayani appreciated their enthusiasm to protect Pakistan under all circumstances. The tension at LoC between Pakistan and India has increased during the last few weeks as both countries blame one another for killing their soldiers.

Meanwhile, top army generals are expected to convene for the corps commanders’ conference on Wednesday. The meeting is aimed at discussing security threats and development both from within and outside the country. The law and order situation in Karachi is expected to remain the main topic of discussion as the federal government is planning to launch targeted operations in the port city.

Another important issue that calls for in-depth analysis and discussion is the expected dialogue with outlawed militant groups. Gen Kayani has already requested a national consensus against terrorism. A cabinet committee on national security has been tasked to prepare a national security policy from which foreign, defence, security and related policies would flow.
