Following the suit of Bharatiya Janata Party, ruling party Congress appears to be promoting Rahul Gandhi as the face of the party for the upcoming polls. BJP has recently decided to officially announce Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, who will be addressing a rally in Jaipur. Gandhi has announced to address a rally at Salumber only a day before Modi’s rally.

The schedule of both rallies indicates a preview of upcoming competition between two prospective prime ministerial candidates. Earlier, PM Manmohan Singh reportedly confirmed that he would be very comfortable working under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in case he emerges as a prime ministerial candidate of Congress.

Although Congress has been trying to avoid a comparison between Modi and Gandhi, the schedule of upcoming rallies will temp the media and political veterans to compare the two on all possible grounds. The only major difference between both rallies lies in the type of audience they are likely to attract. Rahul will be addressing a pro-Congress gathering in a tribal area while Modi will attract urban and youth voters.

Congress seems to have launched its mission of taking down BJP rallies and steal their share of media attention. Earlier, Congress announced gram sabhas on the day of Modi’s rally but withdrew the decision in fear of appearing too desperate in targeting BJP rallies.
