Nara Chandrababu Naidu, 64, was sworn as the first Chief Minister of the newly-created state of Andhra Pradesh this Sunday evening at 7.27 p.m. at the grand gathering in Guntur District. The TDP leader had been the leader of the Opposition during the 10 long years of the Congress regime.

Naidu wanted a small ceremony as to save time of the guests, specially the Prime Ministers time and so was expected to host a one man show but after he heard that the new PM will be skipping his oath-taking, he changed his plan. “Earlier, our party chief had wanted the oath-taking of his Cabinet to be held on another day as swearing-in of the entire Cabinet would be a time-consuming exercise and would also cause inconvenience to the Prime Minister. But now, as Modi is not attending his swearing-in, Naidu has decided to allow the oath-taking of his Cabinet also on June 8 itself,” said a TDP leader.

TDP sources said elaborate arrangements were made to accommodate about five lakh people to take part in the swearing-in ceremony to be held in a 70-acre site at Nagarjuna Nagar, located between Vijayawada and Guntur. TV channels reported that 19 ministers were also sworn in by governor ESL Narasimhan along with Naidu at a jam-packed public event. enior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani, Union home minister Rajnath Singh, Union ministers Ananth Kumar and M Venkaiah Naidu as well as the chief ministers of Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa and Nagaland attended the high-profile ceremony.
