Ottawa’s radio show Asian Sounds team that had initiated a petition against discriminatory visa practices of the Indian government about a month ago is pleased to announce that the visa fees has been reduced to $62.00 as of October 15th, 2010.

Ottawa- October 18, 2010

Ottawa’s famous radio show Asian Sounds broadcast live every Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on CKCU 93.1FM had initiated a petition in co-operation with various other Indo-Canadian organizations. This petition was to urge the Indian government to re-consider its discriminatory policy towards Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) while granting a visitor visa.

A PIO applying for a six-month tourist/visitor visa to India was being charged CAN$123.00 plus CAN$21.00 amounting to a whopping CAN$144.00, whereas a non-PIO paid only $62.00 for the same visa. Effective October 15th –the new rule is a reduced fee of $62.00 for a PIO seeking a tourist visa to India. However, there are other issues still to be resolved which are as follows:
– A clear explanation of Surrender Certificate –why pay $168 and why a need for it
-Introduce a discounted rate for senior citizens applying for a tourist visa.
-Review the current level of service provided by VFS Global.
