The Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) is delighted that the Prime Ministers of Canada and India have agreed to initiate talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries that will include negotiations on Free Trade and Investment.

“We trust the negotiations will be completed successfully in the near future,” Vinay Nagpal, ICCC President, said in a statement issued in Toronto. The Chamber also welcomes the editorial in today’s The Globe & Mail (A new Silk Road) that acknowledges the positive role of the Indian Diaspora for furthering trade ties.

On its part, the ICCC continues to facilitate trade and investment ties between Canada and India through the concerted actions of its members and by building the foundation for a comprehensive partnership of Canada-India people-to-people ties.

Pertinently, Peter Van Loan, Canada’s Minister for International Trade, had remarked during an interactive session with the ICCC’s members in September 2010, “Canada’s trade and investment partnership with India is on an exciting path – one that holds great promise for both countries as we continue toward lasting economic recovery.

Our government has made India a key priority in Canada’s foreign and trade policy agenda.”
