A 32 year old man believed to be on a work holiday in Australia from America was killed in a shark attack.
The American man decided to dive alone 500m off Little Armstrong Bay on the island’s north-west coast when the predator struck about 1.30pm
According to the police authorities two people who were riding a private 25ft Bertram boat made a distressed emergency call after spotting bubbles. They later saw the 32 year old’s body surfaced. The body of the deceased had obvious traumatic fatal injuries according to the two eye witnesses.
Police spokesman Gerry Cassidy said witnesses on the boat told police they had seen the shark, which they described as a 3m white pointer.
A spokesperson from Department of Fisheries revealed that the Shark was still in the vicinity late yesterday afternoon.
He told reporters “The shark is still said to be in the area so the water users are being advised of the attack and to keep clear of the area and essentially the local authorities and the police have been clearing people from the beaches. We are going to assess the situation with police to see what further action is required.”
The incident is the fourth fatal shark attack in the Western Australian province since the past fourteen months.
