According to the police officers at the scene, an elderly man was allegedly attacked by a hammer in his house in western side of Sydney on Tuesday.

Police authorities received an assault complain at around 1:40 pm (Australian Time). The call was made from a house in Auburn. Rescue teams reached the informed location in no time and found a middle aged man with serious head injuries, which the policemen claim to have come from a hammer. The victim was immediately taken to the nearby hospital and was in critical condition for quite some time but could not survive due to the depth of the wounds. He was declared dead by the hospital authorities shortly. The body of the victim remains in the Westmead Hospital as detectives and other crime scene investigation teams collect evidence from the house he was attacked in.

Authorities have also mentioned that another man in his 20s was also arrested from the house and is being detained by the police for investigation purposes. However, details on the identity and whereabouts of the arrested man from the crime scene have not been released. Police has not given any statement whether the arrested man was the attacker or an eyewitness.

Detailed investigations are being carried out by different police departments including forensics.
