Annastacia Palaszczuk, the ex-transport minister, is anticipated to be the unopposed opposition leader of Labor Party in the province of Queensland. She will be sworn in as the leader of the opposition party in Queensland on Wednesday in a party meeting where six other members of the party are expected to be present.

MP Curtis Pitt, another member of Labor Party and an MP, had previously showed interest in taking over the opposition leadership post. However, Ms. Palaszczuk informed the media on Tuesday that Mr. Pitt does not intend to do so anymore and that she will be elected unopposed. Commenting on the disappointing defeat of her party on Saturday, she admitted that the “government had lost way”.

She also mentioned that the domination of a certain section within the Labor Party has ended and stated that her vision of Labor Party is to involve more railway workers, doctors, and nurses to elect them as future party candidates.

She said, “Campbell Newman has made a lot of promises, he has put up there at the top of the list the cost of living, we will make sure that he keeps to these promises and we will make him accountable each and every day of this Parliament. Ministers better be across their briefs because we are prepared to ask the tough questions.’’
