A 27 year old New Westminster man was arrested by the Vancouver Police with the assistance of the Burnaby R.C.M.P., and is facing charges after the robbery of a gas station early yesterday afternoon.

A man entered a gas station in the 6800 block Victoria Drive and as he approached the clerk he pulled out a syringe, told the clerk he had HIV, and demanded money.

The man left the store after getting some money and sped off in a car. With the assistance of a witness who was outside the gas station at the time of the robbery, police were able to get a description of the suspect and his car and broadcast it to other local police agencies.

The suspect was seen in his vehicle by the Burnaby R.C.M.P. and was stopped at a red light at Salisbury Avenue and Kingsway by both the R.C.M.P. and Vancouver Police officers who were on scene. He was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with one count of robbery is Daniel Kent Walkley, a 27 year old resident of New Westminster. He was due to appear in court this morning. Mr. Walkley is known to police.

“The timely assistance of the Burnaby R.C.M.P. in both locating and taking Mr. Walkley into custody highlights that despite the invisible boundary between our jurisdictions, the ability to immediately share information on crimes can produce successful results and keeps the community safe,” says Constable Lindsey Houghton.
