King Charles cancels trip to France
Due to protests against the increase in retirement age, King Charles of Britain has postponed his scheduled state visit to France, which was to be his first official visit as king.
French trade unions have announced a nationwide strike for Tuesday, the same day Charles was due to arrive in France. Charles and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly decided to postpone the visit in a phone conversation this morning, and the new date is yet to be determined.
Public life in France has been disrupted for weeks by strikes against the pension reform, with more than three million people protesting yesterday and reports of vandalism and arson increasing. Despite the postponement of the visit to France, Charles is expected to continue with his scheduled visit to Germany on Wednesday.
