london midland train derails near watford junctionA London Midland train derailed near Watford caused major disruption to services in and out of London Euston station. According to the operator, the train was struck by another service after hitting the landslide during torrential rain and thunderstorms in the area.

Sources have confirmed that there have not been any report of injuries from the 6.19am service from Milton Keynes to London Euston since it came off the track at around 7am. A spokesperson for the operator explained that “due to a derailment this morning, there will be delays and cancellations,” adding that “ticket acceptance in place on other train operating companies.” According to British Transport Police, its officers attended the incident of a landslide at the Hunton Bridge Tunnel near Watford and are working with fire and ambulance services at the scene.

The route managing director for Network Rail, Martin Frobisher, mentioned that “a train hit a landslip, caused by torrential rain, resulting in a small section of the train to leave the tracks a few miles north of Watford. The train remained upright and there are no reported passenger injuries.” He alleged that “engineers are on site and train services are now running through the area but it will be some time before a normal timetable resumes.” It was added that “our priority is to fully reopen the railway as soon as it is safe to do so. A full investigation into what happened will take place.”
