On Friday 18th March 2011 at approx. 9pm a 34 yr old female was attacked in the area of King Street East and Wellington Street. She was stabbed multiple times and managed to call for assistance.

She was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital where she underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.

Because of the injuries sustained and the manner in which they were inflicted the homicide unit was notified and continued the investigation.

Shortly after 1pm on 19th March 2011 Police located John Wayne ALKERTON 54yrs at an address on the west mountain and he was arrested without incident.

He will appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse tomorrow morning to face a charge of attempted murder.

This was not a random attack and the victim and accused had previously been involved in a relationship.
