On Wednesday, March 30, 2011, police arrested a man in connection with a fraud investigation.

It is alleged that:

– in April 2010, the accused conspired with two other men and opened a false business account with a financial institution,

– the accused was in possession of a stolen/forged cheque worth several thousand dollars,

– he coerced one of the men to deposit it into the account,

– the attempt was thwarted, and no money was lost in the incident.

It is further alleged that:

– in December 2009, the accused was in possession of credit card data and fraudulently used the data to purchase three business class airline tickets totaling thousands of dollars.

It is further alleged that:

– in June 2007, the accused fraudulently purchased a home and obtained a mortgage for the property by fraudulent means .

Salman Farooq Sheikh, also known as Salman Farooq, 35, of Woodbridge, has been charged with:

1) Attempt Fraud Over
2) two counts of Utter Forged Document,
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
4) two counts of Fraud Over,
5) Possess Credit Card Obtained by Crime
6) Use Credit Card Obtained by Crime
7) Fraudulently Possess Credit Card Data
8) Fraudulently Use Credit Card Data
9) Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence
10) Personation with Intent
11) Obtain Credit by Fraud
12) Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over

Police believe there may be more victims.

The accused was scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Friday, March 31, 2011, at 9 a.m.
