Investigators with the Internal Affairs Bureau conducted an investigation, with the assistance of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, into a series of motor vehicle collisions that occurred in 2010. The alleged fraud involved the staging of motor vehicle collisions followed by insurance claims for damaged vehicles and injuries sustained during the impact.
A number of insurance providers have been victimized, compensating the claimants for damages and injuries.
On Thursday, April 14, 2011, officers from the Internal Affairs Bureau arrested and charged Peel Regional Police Constable Carlton Watson. It is alleged that the officer facilitated the reporting of the accidents as legitimate collisions. He will be charged with the following offences:
· Uttering a Fraudulent Document;
· Obstruct Justice; and
· Breach of Trust.
Constable Watson has 18 years policing experience and is currently assigned to 21 Division. He is suspended with pay and will remain on suspension, pending the completion of the court proceedings.
Investigators have also arrested and charged a second individual, in relation to these matters. Wayne Isaacs, a 46 year-old resident of Brampton, has been arrested and charged with Defraud the Public.
