District 8 RCMP are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Chemin Principal, in Petit-Paquetville, N.B. on the afternoon of April 14, 2011.

A 60-year-old man was struck by an oncoming vehicle while walking. The man, a resident of Petit-Paquetville, died as a result of his injuries.

A 62-year-old man of Rang Saint-George, N.B., has been arrested and charges are pending. He will remain in police custody, until a court appearance, later today.

Alcohol and speed are both believed to have been factors in the collision.

The name of the deceased will not be released, at the request of his family.

UPDATE

On April 15, 2011, 62-year-old Edmond Doucet, of Rang-Saint-George, N.B., was charged with impaired driving causing death, in connection with a collision that occurred on April 14, on chemin Principal in Petit-Paquetville.

A 60-year-old man was struck by an oncoming vehicle while walking. The man, a resident of Petit-Paquetville, died as a result of his injuries. His name has not been released.

Edmond Doucet remains in custody following a telephone remand hearing. He is scheduled to appear in Caraquet Provincial Court on April 18, 2011.
