Man to be charged in connection with the death of Roch Thériault, Moncton, NB

On Friday, May 6, 2011, 60-year-old Matthew Gerrard MacDonald, of Port au Port, Newfoundland and Labrador, was charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of 63-year-old Roch Thériault. The charge comes after an investigation by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit with assistance from District 4 Southeast RCMP and Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

Thériault was found dead near his cell at the Dorchester Penitentiary on February 26, 2011. He had been involved in an altercation with another inmate and died as the result of his injuries.

MacDonald is scheduled to appear in court in Moncton Provincial Court on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea.
