The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating an incident of mischief to religious property.
On Friday, May 13, 2011, at 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a property damage complaint at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’sWitnesses Church at 270 Midpark Way S.E.
Seven windows in the church were scratched /etched with profanity. Damage is estimated at $2,000, as all seven windows will need to be replaced.
While this incident occurred at a place of worship, under the Criminal Code the messages do not constitute a hate crime. While blasphemous, they are not believed to be hate motivated.
