The investigation has surfaced a number of persons of interest and the Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit is following up on these leads.
BACKGROUND:
On Wednesday May 25 just before 11:00 pm Nanaimo RCMP responded to a call of a person passed out on the corner of Selby St. and Milford Crescent Nanaimo BC. While enroute to this call another person called in to say a woman had been heard screaming for help in the same area. Upon arrival a female in her early 20’s was found lying on the ground. The Nanaimo Fire Department and BC Ambulance were already on scene. The paramedics could not find any signs of life. The members on scene immediately called for a police dog to attend.
The Nanaimo Detachment Serious Crime Unit was called out and are investigating her death. The Forensic Identification Unit was on scene all night and are expected to return later this morning. Members of the Vancouver Island Tactical team will be arriving in Nanaimo later this morning to assist with the search of the crime scene. These members have significant training in this area.
There are over 50 RCMP members actively working on this case. The Coroner has requested an autopsy and until that has been completed RCMP will not be releasing the cause of death.
At this time there are no suspects. Members of the Serious Crime Unit are following up on all information which is being called in by the public.
