Two Calgary men charged for the murder of Mark Mariani

The Calgary Police Service has charged two people in connection with a 2010 homicide.

At approximately 9 a.m., on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, police responded to a “check on welfare” call in the 1500 block of 16 Avenue N.W.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a deceased man in a parking lot. He was later identified as Mark MARIANI, 47.

Police believe this was a random attack.

Following an extensive investigation involving several appeals for public assistance, police executed two search warrants on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. As a result, two men were arrested.

Robert David REITMEIER, 24, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. He was arrested without incident in southwestCalgaryon Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

Tyler William STURRUP, 26, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. He was arrested without incident in southEdmontonon Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

REITMEIER and STURRUP will make their first court appearance on Wednesday, June 8, 2011.
