Man in critical condition after stabbing in Oppenheimer Park

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after an overnight stabbing in Oppenheimer Park, located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Police are searching for suspects.

Shortly after 1 a.m. today, Vancouver police and B.C. Ambulance paramedics responded to a call of a stabbing in Oppenheimer Park, which is located in the 400 block of E. Cordova Street. Officers and paramedics arriving on scene found an unconscious man lying in the middle of the park. The man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, had been stabbed and was rushed to hospital. He has since undergone surgery and remains in hospital in critical condition.

Patrol officers and members of the Forensic Identification Unit, assisted by a police canine team, have spent the morning conducting an extensive search of the park and surrounding neighbourhoods looking for evidence and additional witnesses.

Oppenheimer Park remains behind police tape as investigators from the VPD Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Unit investigate. No suspects have been identified.
