Elderly Surrey couple perish in house fire

On June 30th at approximately 3:00am, Surrey RCMP and Surrey Fire Services responded to a fully engulfed house fire in the 12000 block of 97 Avenue after multiple 911 calls were received.

Surrey Fire Services engaged with the fire however were not able to make initial entry due to the unstable nature of the fire. Once entry was made two deceased individuals, a 69 year old male and a 62 year old female, believed to be husband and wife, were located. A twenty-seven year old male, believed to the couple’s son, was able to escape the blaze and is currently in hospital being treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Members of the Surrey RCMP are working in partnership with the Surrey Fire Services to determine the exact cause of the fire. The investigation is still in its early stages, however, the cause is not believed to be criminal in nature.
