Windsor police arrest two suspects for arson at 1209 Drouillard Rd

Windsor Police have arrested two suspects believed to be responsible for the arson at 1209 Drouillard Rd. which occurred earlier this week. At 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, Windsor Fire and Police Services responded to a report of a working fire at this location. As a result of the fire, the building was completely destroyed causing an estimated $250,000 in damage. Two firefighters were injured while attempting to extinguish the blaze.

On Wednesday, July 7, 2011, investigators received anonymous information regarding the arson which led them to the arrests of the suspects. Further investigation has revealed that both suspects broke into the vacant building through a rear window. Once inside the building, they stripped the building of a quantity of copper and other salvageable metals. The scrap metal was then removed from the building and hidden some distance away. The pair also smashed a number of television sets that were being stored in the basement of the building.

Investigators learned that after stripping the building of the scrap metal, the suspects then set fire to the building causing the devastating fire. The suspects were lucky to have escaped the burning building uninjured.

Two 16 year old male young persons have been arrested in relation to this incident. One accused remains in custody charged with Break and Enter and Arson. The second suspect has been released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The investigation is continuing with the cooperation of the Windsor Fire Service but it is anticipated that no further arrests will be made.
