On Wednesday, July 7, 2011, investigators received anonymous information regarding the arson which led them to the arrests of the suspects. Further investigation has revealed that both suspects broke into the vacant building through a rear window. Once inside the building, they stripped the building of a quantity of copper and other salvageable metals. The scrap metal was then removed from the building and hidden some distance away. The pair also smashed a number of television sets that were being stored in the basement of the building.
Investigators learned that after stripping the building of the scrap metal, the suspects then set fire to the building causing the devastating fire. The suspects were lucky to have escaped the burning building uninjured.
Two 16 year old male young persons have been arrested in relation to this incident. One accused remains in custody charged with Break and Enter and Arson. The second suspect has been released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
