Bill Maher compares GOP to Casey Anthony trial: July 9, 2011

Bill Maher is not a fan of the Republican Party. He believes their policies fly in the face of common sense and when you listen to his explanations, you have to think that he does make a good point. Of course the rhetoric jumping back and forth between the two camps is confusing, mind-boggling and sometimes downright hostile but whatever the case; it is very, very difficult to figure out just who may be right. Should I vote Republican or should I vote for Democrat? If we’re currently in a mess, just how did we get here and who has the right solution for getting us out of this mess?

Mr. Maher may not be liked by everyone, but you have to admit he’s intelligent, well-informed and funny. Yes, he is oh so funny. I can’t help thinking his slant on things is very much like Jon Stewart of the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert. There is a lot of stupidity in politics but there are also a lot of problems. Trying to get a group of people to all pull in the same direction at the same time is, well, if not difficult, almost impossible. To all those who think they have the correct solution and can get us all out of trouble, I would like to remind each and every one of you that if it was simple, it would be done by now. And considering it isn’t, I realize that whether it’s the left or the right, no one guy – Let’s give Obama a break! – can pull a rabbit out of his hat and correct all the ills of the world.

In the following clip, Bill Maher looks at the GOP s economic thinking and compares it to the Casey Anthony trial.

“If you can look at a crime where everything points to one answer and not see it, you’re a dumbass. And if you can look at the deficit and not see that the problem is that the rich stopped paying taxes, you’re a Republican.”

Analysts are comparing the Casey Anthony trial to the O. J. Simpson trial. Okay, the prosecution may have slipped up and consequently the defendant gets off on what amounts to a technicality. However, other than the possibility of an alien teleporting in from another planet to commit the crime, the circumstantial evidence overwhelming points to the accused and to see the accused walk free just boggles the mind. On top of it, to see the picture in the newspapers of Casey Mason, one of the defendant’s lawyers flipping the bird to reporters seems to add insult to injury. At the end of day, a trial is yes, to find out the truth but it is also a game, a game of law, a game for lawyers. There are winners and there are losers.

I can’t help thinking of Maher’s comparison of the GOP policies and the Case Anthony trial. The GOP continues to not want to raise taxes on the rich which seems totally illogical. Trickle down is not working; businesses are moving production overseas where labour is cheaper. The GOP relaxed regulation and so Wall Street went nuts and caused the biggest financial meltdown since the Great Depression. Despite that lesson, the GOP insists on no regulation. They remove relax fire code; the building burns down; they vote against a fire code.
