61 year old Surrey man dies after being hit by taxi

A 61 year old Surrey man that was critically injured in a collision at approximately 11:55 p.m. July 15th has succumbed to his injuries. His name is not being released at the request of the family.

Just after midnight, Vancouver Police received a call that a collision had occurred between a taxi and a pedestrian in the 200 block East Cordova Street. The pedestrian was rushed to hospital but passed away despite the best efforts of medical professionals. The driver involved in the collision was cooperative with investigators, who are still examining the incident. No charges have been laid. The factors that may have contributed to the fatal collision remain under investigation.

It was initially believed that a taxi was the vehicle involved in the incident but subsequent investigation revealed that it was a production vehicle for the movie and television industry made out to resemble a working taxi.

There have been 13 traffic-related fatalities in 2011 in the City of Vancouver, nine of which have been pedestrians.
