At 5:52 p.m. on July 19, 2011, Hamilton Police received a 911 call for a 13 yr old girl who had jumped in Lake Ontario from a floating dock and was now missing.

The 13 year old was initially playing with friends on the floating dock that extends out into Lake Ontario. She jumped off the dock into the water where her friends were swimming. The winds at the time were from the East and the water was choppy. Friends during this time called for help to others in the area and two male youths entered the water but could not locate the girl

A complete search was conducted on land and water in the area where the 13 yr old girl was last seen. Marine Units from Hamilton, Halton and Peel Police Services, Hamilton Police Division Patrol and Detectives, Forensics and ACTION Officers, Hamilton Beach Rescue (Coast Guard Auxiliaries) and Tow Warf (Coast Guard Auxiliaries), and Hamilton Fire Dept and EMS responded.

Family members were located and attended the scene. Hamilton Police Victim Services attended and assisted family.

Peel Police Dive Team responded and conducted an underwater search of the area where the victim was last seen. At approximately 1:42 a.m. on July 20, 2011, Peel Divers located a body (female deceased) under the water just off the beach area at the rear of Barangas, and was positively identified as the missing 13-year-old.

The Hamilton Police investigation is concluded and this is now a coroner’s case.
