At approximately 8:15 a.m., members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police New Minas Detachment, along with EHS, Fire and the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation were attending an accident scene on Highway 101 between exit 14 Coldbrook and exit 15 Berwick when a cab truck with an Ontario license plate drove through a Department of Transportation checkpoint, as well as the accident scene, at a high speed.

Police began to monitor the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Annapolis, Digby, Meteghan and Yarmouth RCMP became involved in the pursuit. Spike belts were deployed in Digby and Yarmouth. The vehicle ran over both and eventually pulled over to the shoulder of Highway 101 near Starrs Road in Yarmouth.

A 59 year-old male from Ontario was taken into police custody without incident at the scene. He remains in custody and will be appearing in Yarmouth Provincial Court on July 29th, 2011 on numerous driving related charges as well as possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
