However, these security steps are there are as preventive measures and do not point to any terrorist threat. As per a Pentagon official “Al-Qaeda has focused on holidays and milestone events in the past”.

The alert level has been authorized by the Defense Secretary Leon E.Panetta as the Force-Protection Level.  This has been approved primarily for all military installations across the U.S. The Defense Ministry and Pentagon have stated that this is not in response to any terrorist activity but is only vigilanceof security on the part of the U.S.

Talking about the time-duration of force-protection levels  ordered across U.S bases, Navy Capt. John Kirby has stated that “takes effect today and goes through the anniversary”.
