Man arrested for assaulting a police officer

On Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Codiac Regional RCMP arrested a 79-year-old man, following a traffic stop on Champlain Street in Dieppe, N.B.

The man was pulled over for a traffic infraction. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver got out of his car and confronted the officer aggressively. The man resisted arrest by punching and kicking the officer. The driver suffered minor injuries during the arrest and was brought to the hospital for treatment. The officer was not injured.

The man will appear in court at a later date to face charges in connection with the incident.
