Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have charged a 35-year-old man for endangering animals in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia.
On October 4, 2011, 8:50 PM, RCMP received a report about a horrible smell coming from an apartment at 716 Old Sackville Road. People living in the building told police there may be animals either dead or in distress. Police entered the apartment and found several dead cats and three that were still alive. It appears the animals were left without access to food and water and ended up turning on each other for survival. The smell and remains forced investigators to seal off the apartment due to health and disease concerns. HRM Animal Services assisted in the investigation.
On October 5, 2011, Halifax RCMP arrested a 35-year-old man in relation to the above. He will be appearing in Dartmouth Provincial Court on November 23, 2011. He faces charges under the Criminal Code including Section 446(B) C.C. – Causing Damage or Injury to Animals and Section 430(4) C.C. – Mischief Under $5000.
