Over 30 injured in tragic Alberta bus rollover

The tragic accident of a Red Arrow bus on Friday sent over 30 people to hospitals with severe injuries. The bus rolled over on a highway about 10 kilometres west of Redwater. Two of the sufferers were airlifted to several Edmonton hospitals, said Cam Heke, spokesman for STARS – an air ambulance service.

One of the critically injured passengers was rushed to Edmonton via ground ambulance, said Kerry Williamson, spokesman for Alberta Health Services. An elderly man was also among the sufferers who became stable before arriving at the hospital.

Overall, health condition of 25 of the sufferers became stable while they were been transported to medical facilities whereas 9 more were treated on the field.

According to Red Arrow general manager John Stepovy, 36 people were travelling on the bus en route to Edmonton. The bus rolled near the intersection of Highway 651 and Highway 28.

He said: “Our biggest concern is just the well-being of our passengers on board.”

Stepovy said Red Arrow is in contact with the families of few passengers; however, he hesitated to provide any details about the driver.

After the accident took place, RCMP cordoned off the area and its surroundings. Choppers and emergency vehicles stayed handy while several fire trucks and an Alberta Health Services bus was on the scene to provide instant help.
