President Barack Obama said Monday the United States and Israel both concur that diplomacy is the finest way to deal with the problem of potential Iranian nuclear weapons. He said the U.S. will reflect on all alternatives in dealing with the undesirable outcome of an Iranian barrage.
“Both the prime minister and I prefer to solve this diplomatically,” Obama said.
However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will come to a decision on its own on how to tackle an alarming situation that both unites and divides the longtime allies. He said Iran has one thing right – Israel and the United States are selfsame as Iran’s foes.
“We are you and you are us,” said PM Netanyahu.
Moreover, Obama is likely to inform Netanyahu at the White House that even though the U.S. is devoted to Israel’s security it cannot afford to fight another war.
“It is profoundly in the United States’ interest to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. We do not want to see a nuclear arms race in one of the most volatile regions in the world.
“We do not want the possibility of a nuclear weapon falling in to the hands of terrorists, we do not want a regime that has been a state sponsor of terrorists being able to feel that it can act more aggressively,” Obama said.
He said although the U.S. wants to avoid a war, it will fight one if it is the only option left to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
