District 1 RCMP Grand Manan is investigating the death of a Grand Manan lobster fisherman.

During the afternoon of April 30, 2012, a 51-year-old fisherman fell overboard while attempting to reach for a trap buoy.  Another fisherman, working on the same boat, jumped into the water to provide assistance as a nearby lobster boat arrived to offer help.

The man was conscious when he was pulled from the water but became unresponsive and CPR was administered as the boat was heading back to the Seal Cove wharf on Grand Manan Island.  The individual was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy has been ordered.

The RCMP and Coroner’s office are investigating.
