With beautiful weather expected for the long weekend, HRM Partners in Policing remind the public not to leave valuables in a vehicle while it’s unattended, especially at parks, beaches or hiking areas.

Every spring when people start visiting beaches, parks and hiking areas, there’s an increase in the number of thefts from vehicles that are parked at those locations. These thefts are generally a crime of opportunity, with the sight of items being a temptation for would-be thieves. Police recommend that citizens remove all items from their vehicles. If it’s absolutely necessary to leave items in your vehicle, they should be locked in the trunk out of plain view before arriving at your destination.
